Avoid Spyware!!!

being a computer support representative, part of my job is to troubleshoot, fix or clean computers that are infected by spywares. Spyware are one of the reasons that make your computer run slower and they could also corrupt your data or send you a lot of spam email. If you want a complete definition of what a spyware is or what can it do you can read it here in www.wikipedia.org. The bottom line is spyware is not good and it'll execute programs that you don't need and make your computer slower. So, I have some tips on how to avoid spyware or lessen the possibility of attack.
first of all, update your Operating system. If you're using Windows Xp, make sure you have the latest service pack which is service pack 2. Also, if you see a yellow shield with an exclamation point on the lower right side of your screen ( taskbar-where the time is located) double click on it and installs the latest security updates from Microsoft. Microsoft always release an update every month so watch out for that. Secondly, have an anti-virus software running on your system. This will help you delete existing virus and prevents you from acquiring viruses. third, clean up your system by using anti-spyware programs. I personally use Ad-Aware which can be downloaded in download.com. There are also other anti-spyware programs that you can download on that site but make sure you read the reviews. AdAware doesn't give a real-time protection but it does scan your PC and delete spywares that it found. You can also clean your system by going to my computer>C: drive>Documents and settings> choose your username folder> and local settings> and delete everything inside your TEMP folders and Temporary Internet Files Folders. If you can't see Local Settings, go to tools on the top menu> folder options> click on the view tab> and select the radio button that says show hidden files and folders. Another thins you can do is to installs siteadvisor on your favorite browser. It currently support IE and Firefox. Siteadvisor gives you an idea which websites are clean when you're doing a search in google or yahoo Once installed, when you're doing a search in one of the search engines, they will warn you if the site has spyware by giving it a red mark. Lastly, don't just download free programs online. They, most of the times have some bugs that came with it.
well, hopefully I was able to help you somehow. if you have any questions, please feel free to comment.

New Gen is here!

so, with the release of Sony Playstation 3 in Japan last saturday and the impending release of Playstation 3 here in the US on November 17 plus the "release to manufacturer" of Windows Vista, I truly am feeling the spirit of not only the holiday season but also the Spirit of New Generation for technology and gaming. To make the matters more exciting, the Nintendo Wii will also be release this November 19 and thus the deployment of New generation console is complete. microsoft Xbox started it last year when they release the Xbox 360 however, I didn't feel the heavy impact of the New Gen. I guess this year is more important because two companies will release their new Gen console. There's a lot of hype with this one. i do feel that Nintendo Wii will be the hottest holiday season gift this Christmas and Wii will also be popular in the next few months but I think Sony will take its place again as the leading gaming console because of the power that the PS3 has. People will be excited for the Wii, yes however that excitement will be short lived when they found out how hard it is to play with the Wii that will require the gamer to make a lot of movement. I feel that Wii will be the console for the masses, for the family but PS3 will be console for hardcore gamers and I know that every gamer will be lusting to have PS3 in their possession.
Aside from the New Gen console, Microsoft also release their Windows Vista to the manufacturer meaning next year by january 2007. computer companies will start selling PCs with Vista as the companion OS. Apple's leopard will also be release next year and there will be a lot of excitement for the next few months.

Internet Explorer sucks!

So, I was making my portfolio website for my portfolio class in school. My portfolio will contain all the previous projects and assignments that I made for Instructional Development Design minor. I am using HTML because it is easier for me to integrate things that I want to do for my site rather than doing it all by flash which will take me months and actionscripts learning to do it. I purchased a domain name and I host my site in yahoo. Everything was working fine except for minor design changes that I need to make. I was testing my site using a Mozilla Firefox browser. I was happy with the progress that I was making until I decided to test it using Internet explorer from Microsoft. I noticed that the navigation for my Projects page is different in IE. Firefox and other browsers like Safari and Opera works smoothly with my site except for this stupid Internet Explorer browser. So, as much as I love Windows, I would discourage all of you from using IE. Instead, use Firefox or other known browsers available.
